2023 Recap and Look Ahead

Hey Everyone! 2023 was a busy year in my corner of the musical universe. It began 14 hours earlier than usual in Queensland, Australia at the incredible Woodford Folk Festival, performing with the Jacob Jolliff Band. Woodford is the largest gathering of artists and musicians in Australia and was a real joy to experience.

In March, I was back in the Southern Hemisphere to play a private event in Buenos Aires with my pals in Carte Blanche. This was my first trip to Argentina and the capital city was a fascinating place.

Later in the Spring I taught at the wonderful Sorefingers music camp in the Cotswolds region of England. Sorefingers attracts acoustic musicians from all over the UK and Europe for a week of workshops, concerts and jamming. I’d been hearing about this camp for years and being there was everything I’d imagined. (especially after 3 years of rescheduling due to the pandemic)

Summer flew by as it always seems to do and the end of the year brought some studio time with a couple of my favorite projects. In November, I went to rural Western Massachusetts to record some new music with my duo partner and guitar hero, Grant Gordy, as we work on the follow-up to our album Year of the Dog.  In December I spent four days at Conveyer Studios in Brooklyn recording some inspiring new music with the Jacob Jolliff Band. Look for Jacob Jolliff, Instrumentals Vol. 2 to be released sometime in 2024.

As for 2024, it’s shaping up to be a full one as well. At the end of February, I’ll be heading way, way North for a run of trio shows in Saskatchewan with mandolinist Andrew Collins. More mandolin will follow, including cd release shows with the Jacob Jolliff Band and some dates with my longtime friends/collaborators in the Matt Flinner Trio. I’ll be in the studio soon with banjoist Hilary Hawke to record some tunes we’ve been playing at shows over the past couple of years and I’ll be teaching some guitar workshops, starting on April 21st at the Rustic Barn Pub in Troy, NY. The events page has some upcoming shows listed and I’ll be adding more as they’re booked. Thanks for checking out the website and I hope to see you at a show soon!
